Today is the day! Our ‘Resonate’ game jam has launched, and we think it’s a pretty distinct one. And there’s still time to join in.
Firstly, it’s a jam that asks entrants to think about game design while exploring an innovative audio-based monetisation technology. We are, of course, talking about AudioMob, which lets game developers monetise their mobile releases through audio ads. Unlike video ads, audio ads run in the background, meaning they don’t prevent the player from continuing to play.
AudioMob is already starting to appear in some high profile releases by leading developers, but there are still plenty of opportunities to explore in terms of the many ways audio ads can be integrated into different types of games. So our jam asks a simple question: How might audio ads be integrated into games in ways that are creative, impactful, and work with the game’s world, rather than against it?
So we'll be looking for interesting - or even immersive - ways to implement audio ads into mobile titles that work with the flow of the game, or otherwise avoid or minimise interruptions on the player's experience. Of course, in entering you’ll get access to our Unity plugin, and full support - putting an innovative new technology in your hands earlier than many.
Secondly, this jam is close to a month long. We wanted to avoid asking entrants to crunch on their games. The extended timeframe doesn’t mean we want our teams to work a month solidly on their creations. Quite the opposite! It means they can fit their jamming around work, study, family - whatever else is going on. Because we know that some things are more important than a game jam.
The almost month-long jam also means that you can join us as an entrant even after things have started. We’ve just sounded the bell to start the jam, but it’s not too late to get involved. If you’re interested, head over to our Discord jam channel and say hello there - we’ll get back, answer any questions, sign you up if you want to join in, and get you all the info you need.
And finally, there’s prizes! The winning entry will receive $1,000, coverage in the games press, introductions to publishers and more. There’s also prizes for runners up, and we’ll make sure every submission gets shared via our own content channels.
Want to know more? You can head over to the jam’s Itch.io page - where you can find all the information in one place - details of the judging criteria, process, dates and times, notes on wellbeing during the jam, rules , terms and conditions: the works. You’ll still need to head to Discord to sign up, but that Itch.io page should answer any questions you have.
Other than that, do keep an eye on our Twitter, blog and elsewhere for updates on the jam, the teams and their creations.
And, of course, good luck to all the teams! We’re so thrilled you could all join us!
