We’re back with our next issue of ‘In the Spotlight’. For this session, we sat down with Yiğit Güneri, a recent joiner here at Audiomob. Yiğit is our latest addition to our fantastic Partnerships team in the UK and we can't wait for you to meet him.

Wait, what is a ‘Partnerships Manager’?

Partnerships are largely responsible for providing critical, dedicated support for both our new and existing partners. This also involves pitching the Audiomob brand and service to potential partners. As such the Partnerships Manager role is a multifaceted one that requires a knack for networking, salesmanship, and a high affinity with technology.

Get to know Yiğit Güneri

Hey Yiğit! Welcome to the team. I’d love to hear a bit about yourself and what you were up to before joining Audiomob.

Yiğit: I actually started my career as a game developer, working across a bunch of different studios, big and small. Overall I’ve been in the gaming industry, specifically the mobile gaming industry, for over five years now. Right before joining Audiomob, I was working at the mobile game and app company Voodoo.

Can you tell us a bit more about your role at Voodoo? Your responsibilities and goals.

Yiğit: My main role at Voodoo was to ensure that the studios we partnered with had continuous technical support throughout the whole life cycle. From testing a mobile game to its final launch on to the app stores, it was a pretty hands-on role with rarely a dull moment.

What has been the biggest change for you between your current role to your last role?

Yiğit: Audiomob is my time working on the advertising side of gaming, it’s my first proper role in digital advertising. It was daunting at first but I’ve enjoyed learning an entirely new medium. There’s been a lot of space for me to work through new and interesting challenges while still being able to use all my existing knowledge of mobile gaming.

A major part of working in Partnerships is fostering good relations with clients. What would you say are the major keys to being successful in this role?

Yiğit: Understanding the needs of gaming studios plays a crucial role in successfully onboarding new partners into the business. Though that is almost a given, I think to truly succeed in this role you need to have a deeper understanding of how the different teams intersect and intertwine. For example, Partnerships are closely connected to our Ad Operations, Developer Relations, and Sales teams. So building a strong understanding of how each team operates is what I’ve found to be the most critical element for success.

What do you like, or are you most excited about, in your new role?

Yiğit: Personally I appreciate the versatility of my role, which empowers me to apply my technical/analytical skills while creating the best possible strategy for our developers and producing more efficient results. I’m also really looking forward to the networking opportunities at events. Getting to talk face-to-face with people and build great relations is something I really look forward to, as it's also an excellent learning experience.

How have you found the onboarding process so far?

Yiğit: So far things have been pretty smooth and above all, fruitful. The team has given me a chance to adapt to my new environment and to absorb as much information as possible. Thanks to the well-structured training sessions and a supportive team my onboarding journey has set a positive start for the journey ahead.

Digital audio is very much a growing industry. What are some of the changes in industry trends or attitudes you’re noticing and how does it affect your role?

Yiğit: Given the upheaval the industry experienced in 2020 and the impact it had on CPI’s [Cost per install] developers found themselves in need of supplementary revenue streams. Because of this, I’m seeing a much bigger appetite for audio ads. Audio ads are already a great solution as they don't disrupt existing metrics and won't compete with other revenue sources.

Drawing from my past experience as a game developer, using audio ads makes sense and feels to me like an organic solution for game studios. It makes my current role all the more fulfilling, as I genuinely believe in audio ads as a valuable, solution-driven service.

You mentioned before how networking is something you're looking forward to. Are there any upcoming events that you’ll be attending?

Yiğit: Actually yes, I’m happy to report that I’ll be attending Gamesforum in Barcelona next February. I’ll also be at GDC [Game Developers Conference] in San Francisco next March. I’m looking forward to both.

Lastly, what does Yiğit get up to outside of the office and the world of Audiomob?

Yiğit: I play a lot of online chess, I would say that is my number one hobby. I’d say I’m also very outdoorsy by nature, I enjoy hiking and camping, especially abroad. Sports-wise I’m a huge football fan, Galatasaray is my team. I’ve also become quite interested in water sports, which I think stems from my love of scuba diving, which I’ve done over most summers. As such I’ve recently started wind and wave surfing though I’m terrible at both so far. It’s a lot of fun though and I aim to keep practicing.
